Special Events & Panels Await Those Who Visit the Queer Lounge

Top Filmmakers to participate in Queer Lounge programming

Park City, UT (January 14, 2004) — THE QUEER LOUNGE announced today the schedule of events and panels hosted at their site at the bottom of Main Street in the Gateway Center in Park City, Utah. JOHN CAMERON MITCHELL ("Hedwig and the Angry Inch"), C.J. COX ("Sweet Home Alabama", "Latter Days"), GUINEVERE TURNER ("Go Fish", "American Psycho") and ANGELA ROBINSON (D.E.B.S.) as well as other queer filmmakers with festival films will participate in Queer Lounge programming. Additional events include morning "Coffee Chats" produced by POWERUP and evening events include a screening of Showtime's "The L Word" and parties by TLA Video and The Silverlake Film Festival.

This year, there are over 50 films with either queer content or made by queer filmmakers in both the Sundance and Slamdance Film Festivals. C. J. COX, best known for his screenplay of Sweet Home Alabama, felt that The Queer Lounge would help "bring up discussions of gay films that might get lost in all the hubbub with all the films at the festivals." Cox and film critic, Stephen Farber will discuss the acceptance of queer-film by studios and audiences in the Mainstreaming of Queer Cinema panel.

"The Sundance Film Festival has long been among the most queer friendly festivals in the country and it's really exciting to have one place that brings together all of the LGBT filmmakers, audiences and festival goers," states STEPHEN GUTWILLIG, Executive Director of Outfest. Outfest will host a panel on minority filmmakers.

John Cameron Mitchell will address filmmaker Jonathan Caouette's first feature, a musical docudrama, Tarnation, which was made for only $218.32. Mitchell served as Co-Executive producer. In a separate panel, Mitchell will also discuss improvisational writing process of his new sex-themed film Shortbus.

The Queer Lounge is a first time hospitality suite dedicated to queer films and filmmakers. A daily event schedule can be found online at http://www.queerlounge.org/programs.html or stop by the lounge at the Gateway Center, 136 Heber Avenue in Park City, Utah for a daily program. Queer Lounge is not affiliated with the Sundance or Slamdance Film Festivals.
